Section on Breastfeeding
The Section on Breastfeeding (SOBr) is a group of 500 pediatricians with breastfeeding interest or expertise. The SOBr is the voice for breastfeeding within the AAP through the publication of policy statements and other educational materials for health professionals. The Section also provides a professional home for AAP members interested in breastfeeding with various networking and leadership opportunities. The Section Executive Committee is elected to serve as breastfeeding experts within the AAP.

SOBr Strategic Plan
The Section on Breastfeeding has a strategic plan that drives the work of the Section. This plan includes initiatives related to advocacy, education, and policy.
- Advocacy efforts include reimbursement for breastfeeding care services, breastfeeding and work, breastfeeding as the infant feeding norm, and the support of state coalitions through the involvement of our AAP Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators.
- Education efforts include breastfeeding sessions at the AAPs National Conference and Chapter and District meetings, growing the Section on Breastfeeding membership, the administration of the Section on Breastfeeding Lectureship grants, and the development of a breastfeeding residency curriculum.
- Policy efforts include the creation and maintenance of policies from the AAP that support breastfeeding.

Who can join?
Membership in the Section is open to fellows and residents of the Academy with an interest in breastfeeding promotion. Members of the Section may vote on issues related to Section business and be elected to serve as Section Executive Committee members.

Cost, value, and benefits!
The cost of membership in the Section on Breastfeeding is $35 per year for fellows and $10 per year for residents. By becoming a member of the Section, you are casting your vote for breastfeeding within the AAP. Your dues will go towards the achievement of the activities within the strategic plan. You will also enjoy many member benefits including:

- The eligibility to apply for a Breastfeeding Lectureship Grant
- At least yearly, breastfeeding promotional materials sent to you (in past years, these have included posters, fact sheets, text books, and videos)
- Access to AAP Breastfeeding Initiatives staff, your Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinator, and the Section Executive Committee to help you with your questions about breastfeeding.
- An electronic mailing list for members where the AAP shares breastfeeding information with you and you are encouraged to ask your colleagues breastfeeding questions.

Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators
What is a Chapter Coordinator?
Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinators (CBCs) are pediatricians who are appointed by their AAP Chapter President to work within their AAP Chapter (there is at least 1 AAP Chapter in every state and Puerto Rico) and the community on breastfeeding support and promotion. CBCs ensure that the members of their AAP Chapter are up to date on the latest breastfeeding education and advocacy activities.

This roster includes the contact information for your CBC. Note: This contact information is to be used to make community connections with your AAP Chapters. This information is not listed so that you may contact these pediatricians regarding individual breastfeeding questions or to market a product. If you are not a patient of the Chapter Breastfeeding Coordinator listed for your state, please do not contact them with breastfeeding questions.
