CHILDisaster NETWORK
CHILD HEALTH INTERNATIONAL LARGE SCALE DISASTER (CHILDisaster)

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), an organization of 55,000 pediatricians from over 60 countries worldwide, is dedicated to the well-being of children. The AAP is providing assistance to organizations responding to disasters. As many of the victims of humanitarian emergencies are children, the AAP recognizes the importance of pediatric expertise in responding to the needs of children in these situations. The AAP supports all healthcare providers who have responsibilities for the care of children in disasters. The CHILDisaster Network and application process recognizes all healthcare providers who advocate for the rights of children to receive care during disasters and who are willing and able to work in concert with other child healthcare providers to meet that goal.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is developing a network of pediatric professionals who will be available to accompany organizations responding to disasters on a short-term notice. Child health professionals with education and experience in humanitarian emergencies will be available to volunteer their time and skills during a specific time period. Should an organization need child health experts on a project, the AAP will provide disaster relief organizations a list of practitioners who have completed a comprehensive application process. These disaster relief organizations may require a more detailed review of the expert's credentials.

If you are interested in participating in the AAP CHILDisaster Network , please read the criteria for participation stated below. It is our hope that a considerable amount of self-selection will take place. Upon review of the criteria for participation, if you feel you meet the minimum requirements and would like to volunteer in this network, you must commit to being available on an on call emergency basis for disasters. Please fill out the application.
