How to Foster a Relationship as an Employed Physician
Presented by Steven M. Donn, MD, FAAP
Thursday, March 22, 2012 | 1:00 PM ET | Price: $99.95
The once-dominant form of health care delivery, the sole practitioner, has given way to delivery by group practices, managed care organizations, hospital-affiliated medical practices, and other integrated organizations. As a result, physicians have a number of employment options, ranging from independent practice to staff-model health maintenance organizations.
Each of these relationships should be accompanied by a written employment contract that clearly outlines the parties’ expectations and obligations. While the complexity of the contract may vary with the size of the practice organization, certain topics must be addressed in all relationships.
Pediatricians and subspecialists venturing into the world of gainful employment are filled with a unique blend of altruism, ambition, and good will. But before the deal is officially sealed on an employment offer, clinicians must overcome the hurdle of the employment negotiations. Being prepared to ask the right questions can ensure a successful negotiation.
Upon completion of the webinar, participants will:
- Decipher the details in an employee contract before accepting a full-time or part-time position.
- Understand the legal Issues on entering a practice.
- Recognize the legal pitfalls of employment contracts and malpractice insurance.
- Understand your responsibility as an employed physician.
- Understand your employer's expectations.
- Evaluate a practice or facility prior to negotiating.

Flex Your RVU with Payers: Relationship, Value, and Uniqueness
Presented by Sue Kressly, MD, FAAP & Betsy Peterson, MD, FAAP
Wednesday, January 18, 2012 | 1:00 PM ET | Price: $99.95
Pediatric practices often feel like negotiating an insurance contract can be like making dinner for a capricious toddler: Even though you both agree chicken and broccoli would be a perfectly fine meal, it might be another story when the plate hits the table. However, pediatricians can overcome this perception by demonstrating their value to payers and applying leverage. This Webinar will educate pediatricians and practice staff on the importance of creating value and exerting leverage that is required to effectively negotiate with payers. In today’s healthcare market, the pediatrician and staff need to know how to assess the practice and the payer, identify advantage points, and apply leverage for gains. Upon completion of the webinar, participants will:
- Determine what value and leverage means to your practice.
- List steps to effectively prepare and plan for a negotiation with a payer.
- Assess your practice and payer’s needs.
- Demonstrate the value of your practice to payers.
- Identify ways to create leverage to use in contract negotiations with payers.
