About ePROS

WHAT IS ePROS?

As you know, research in PROS traditionally has been conducted through paper-based research.  In the 21st century, however, pediatricians are steadily switching from paper to electronic health records. This change produces an exciting opportunity for practice-based research, opening the possibility of using electronic data to conduct epidemiological and observational comparative effectiveness research as well as comparative effectiveness research on interventions to improve care.  PROS recently received funding to start an EHR-based subnetwork within PROS (ePROS).

WHAT IS ePROS MISSION?

The mission of ePROS, very similar to PROS, is to improve the health of children and enhance primary care practice by conducting and fostering national collaborative practice-based research using electronic health record systems.

ePROS Goals

The ePROS goal is to build and test the infrastructure of the electronic Pediatric Research in Office Settings network (ePROS). ePROS will create a federated database to link the health data of multiple organizations. Using de-identified patient data to complete select secure queries ePROS will be able to conduct both observational and interventional comparative effectiveness studies.

HOW DO RESEARCH PROJECTS BECOME PART OF THE ePROS NETWORK?

ePROS practitioners and researchers work together to generate research questions, design study materials and protocols, obtain research funding, collect study data, analyze collected data, and publish results.
