Choose Respect
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Choose Respect is an initiative to help youth form healthy relationships to prevent dating abuse before it starts. This national effort is designed to motivate youth to challenge harmful beliefs about dating abuse and take steps to form respectful relationships. Choose Respect reaches out to youth aged 11 through 14 years because they are still forming attitudes and beliefs that will affect how they are treated and how they treat others. The initiative also connects with parents, teachers, youth leaders, and other supportive adults who influence the lives of youth. Choose Respect messages are supported by online games and interactive learning tools (eg, television and radio spots, streaming video clips, and clickable quizzes) that inspire youth to think about choosing respect. This innovative mix of interactive learning tools also includes Causing Pain: Real Stories of Dating Abuse and Violence, a 30-minute video with compelling stories of real youth who have experienced dating abuse.
