Committee for the Future

Call for Posters Presentations

The AAP Section on Emergency Medicine’s Committee for the Future (C4F) is organizing a timely and exciting program in Washington, DC on the morning of Friday, October 23, 2014 from 9am – 1pm, at the 2015 AAP National Conference & Exhibition.  The session’s focus will be “Advocating for Effective Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM).”  This theme is based in the idea that effective and efficient PEM needs support from local communities and national legislature to be cohesive and successful – spanning but not limited to topics of improvements in pre-hospital care, disaster management, and rural emergency medicine.  Dynamic speakers that morning include Dr. Toni Gross, Dr. Mark Cicero, and Dr. Dan Fagbuyi.

The C4F is now accepting electronically submitted abstracts/proposals for posters or creative displays from individuals and groups that have demonstrated research/projects to advocate for effective PEM. Submissions by members and non-members of the SOEM are welcome; participation is open to health professionals in any field including residents and fellowship trainees. However, any papers whose authors are not members of the SOEM require a sponsor who is a member.

Abstracts should be 300 words or less and need not conform to the usual Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions template, but should be well-written and able to convey a general sense of the importance and effect of the advocacy project. Please include how it can be applied by other PEM providers and any identified advantages/challenges.

Abstracts will be judged by C4F members on their creativity, information content and ability to inspire further advocacy in PEM.  Selected abstracts will be given the opportunity for presentation during the poster session.  Demonstration of outcome data is valuable but not required.  The final poster should be organized and clear but also does not need to abide by the usual scientific poster concept.  We encourage creativity.  Selected posters should be set up by 8:45am on October 23rd and authors are required to be present with their poster from 11:30am until 1pm.  Questions or comments can be directed to Dr. Angela Lumba at

Pediatric Emergency

Leadership Conference 2010 Brochure

The Section sponsored AAP Pediatric Emergency Medicine Leadership Conference "Enhancing Leadership to Improve Quality of Care in Emergency Settings for Children" was held April 16-18, 2010 in San Antonio, TX. Kudos to the Planning Committee! The conference was a great success with nearly 200 attendees and was supported through a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The conference had three major themes -- delivering emergency care of the highest quality and safety, workforce development, and translating research into practice and policy. It included a preconference for PEM Fellowship Directors and advanced media training.

Conference attendees may view some of the presentations made available by conference faculty and the complete program schedule. Others may purchase a copy of the course FLASH DRIVE for $150 by calling AAP Customer Service at 1-866-843-2271.
