AAP Webinar on Pediatric Critical Care Coding & Billing
(sponsored by the Section on Critical Care & Private Payer Advocacy Advisory Committee)
The AAP Section on Critical Care and Privacy Payer Advisory Advocacy Committee teamed up to sponsor a webinar to bring you the latest on pediatric critical care coding and billing. This 90-minute webinar covered the basics, what's new and required in coding and documentation for bundled and unbundled codes, and special procedures in ECMO, transport, ultrasound, CRRT, sedation, consultation, nursing and more. Real world examples were provided along with Q&A at the end. Targeted to intensivists, hospitalists, nurses, and other health care professionals involved in the care of critically ill and injured children. In addition, you can also view the agenda, speaker bios, a list of helpful links and other resources, and two special handouts on drugs requiring close monitoring and an E&M level of care audit form.

Inpatient Neonatal Intensive Care Services and Pediatric and Neonatal Critical Care Services
- Specific instructions have been provided for reporting services when 2 providers of different groups are caring for a neonate or pediatric patient who requires intensive or critical care and the patient improves and is transferred to a lower level of care.
- When a critically ill neonate or pediatric patient improves and is transferred to a lower level of care, the transferring physician reports subsequent hospital care (99231–99233) or hourly critical care services (99291–99292) as appropriate based on the condition of the neonate or child. The receiving physician reports subsequent intensive care (99478–99480) or subsequent hospital care (99231–99233) services as appropriate.
