History of the Section
The Section on Home Care was formed in 1994 and achieved full section status by 1997. Founding AAP members recognized a need for general pediatricians and subspecialists to be educated on topics in the home care of pediatric patients. To that end, the section is dedicated to providing the general pediatrician and pediatric subspecialist with an understanding of the basic principles of and emerging developments in such care. In addition, the section consults to the AAP Board of Directors on home care issues and works with the various AAP committees to provide comments on official Academy policy in this area. Membership in the section is open to all Fellows of the Academy and affiliate members with an interest in home health care.

The Section on Home Care just published the 2nd edition of their Guidelines for Pediatric Home Health Care. This new publication was revised to include updates from the first edition and the addition of new chapters. The new 2nd edition provides "best practice" guidelines written in collaboration with key home health care professionals. Comprehensive and easy-to-use, the new second edition provides a practical approach to establising safe, medically necessary, family-centered home care for pediatric patients.
