Cameron's Arc

Camerons ArcFor children and their families living with a life-altering condition, a trusting relationship with their pediatrician, uniquely able to provide a community-based, whole family perspective, is a crucial lifeline.

Jointly produced by the AAP and Care Points, a Boston-based initiative to improve the care of children and families in difficult circumstances, and supported by the Cameron and Hayden Lord Foundation, Cameron’s Arc: Creating a Full Life (Cameron’s Arc) is a documentary film and teaching guide created to help medical students, residents, fellows and practicing physicians manage this challenging situation. Based on a series of interviews, this moving film portrays how sensitive, family-centered care was delivered by a community pediatrician when he diagnosed one of his patients with Tay Sachs disease.

In 2008, the project was awarded a prestigious International Health & Medical Media (Freddie) Award for its thoughtful illustration of the construction and evolution of the partnership between family and physician, negotiation of changing goals of care, and anticipatory management of concerns.
