Membership in the Section on Hospice and Palliative Medicine is open to AAP members in the following categories:

Fellows, Specialty Fellows, Emeritus Fellows, Retired Fellows, Honorary Fellows, Corresponding Fellows, Resident Members, Candidate Members, Associate Members, International Members, and Post-Residency Training Members

Section Affiliate Members

Professionals

In recognition of the critical role of transdisciplinary collaboration and partnership in hospice and palliative medicine, the SOHPM also welcomes professional affiliate members.  Section Affiliate Membership is open to social workers, nurses and other members of the palliative care community.

Parents

Parents” (adult caregivers who have been the primary caregiver and decision maker for a child with a life-threatening condition; may include grandparents, foster parents and other non-biological parents) who have experienced pediatric hospice and/or palliative care, and who are committed to the ongoing development of the field of pediatric hospice and palliative medicine are also welcome to apply as affiliate members of the Section.  Qualified candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Share insights and information about their experiences in ways that others can
learn from them
• See beyond their own personal experiences
• Show concern for more than one issue or agenda
• Listen well
• Respect the perspectives of others
• Speak comfortably in a group with candor
• Interact well with many different kinds of people
• Work in partnership with others
