What is TECaN?
Established by the AAP Section on Perinatal Pediatrics, the Trainees and Early Career Neonatologists group(TECaN) consists of trainees in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and Early Career Neonatologists within 7 years of graduation from fellowship training who are AAP members. Under the mentorship of Judy Aschner, MD, and Linda J. Van Marter, MD, MPH, TECaN is working to foster career development and leadership skills in a new generation of leaders in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. For more information, please contact Krithika Lingappan, Thomas Parker, or Linda Van Marter.
TECaN promotes communication and networking among members, keeping them informed about pending issues in Neonatal-Perinatal training and career development.
In 2008, the AAP Section on Perinatal Pediatrics sought to develop leaders among young neonatologists. Drs. Judy Aschner and Linda J. Van Marter engaged a focus group of post-residency training fellows in neonatology, who shared their ideas of a group which would cater to the career and life of young physicians in neonatology. SoPPe now has a group for trainees and early career neonatologists (within 7 years of their fellowship completion), TECaN.

Organization of Neonatal Training Program Directors (ONTPD)
The Organization of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Training Program Directors (ONTPD) was formed in 1991 to provide an annual forum for program directors to identify and address issues relevant to Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine (NPM) Fellowship Training. Its membership consists of the program directors from all accredited NPM training programs in the US and Puerto Rico. The leadership structure of the ONTPD is a Council consisting of 6 elected program directors. In 2010, a 7th member, a representative from TECaN, was added.
