Improving Adolescent Health Through State-level Collaborative Initiatives

Topic: Obesity

Healthy Bodies - A Mighty Ninety Mission
Implementation grant will achieve a comprehensive family-focused pediatric health and fitness program to combat childhood obesity among our military dependents at F.E. Warren A.F.B. WY. Our active duty military members know the importance of being fit and healthy; however, this often does not transfer to our children. This program will target children and adolescents in our military community who meet criteria for being overweight or at risk. Participants will engage in monthly clinic sessions with a team of individuals (including a pediatrician, dietitian, health educator, exercise physiologist and social worker) trained to provide guidance to families regarding healthy eating habits, daily physical activity, and incorporation of healthy practices into their busy routines. Our goals are to decrease risks associated with obesity, to improve self-esteem, and to emphasize long term incorporation of these strategies to promote lifelong health for our military children.
